The 97 MY seems to have been split in two. How can I tell which bulb my car uses?

wagon, I would say it is a H1 bulb. The specs for the bulb are 12V, 55 W.

12v, 60/55 W. Checking www.Partspalace.com, they list the changeover during the '96 model year. For the '97 A6, their listing shows the 9006 bulb. Best bet is to remove one and verify correct bulb.

Must be a throwback to some other design. You can run hotter wattage too. There ain't no HB4 in the '97. Fog light is H3.
