Hi there,

I`ve spent quite a while searching this board for info on how to reprogram the ignition key on my A6, but all I seem to be able to find is how to do it for keyless entry systems or the new models. I`ve not got an alarm only an immodaliser fitted, so no remote. 2 out of my 3 keys work in the ignition, but one doesn`t... Can anyone tell me if it is possible to reprogram the key myself or will I have to pay £25 to the dealer :( I`ve tried putting the key in the ignition and turning on, then locking the drivers door with a spare key, but that didn`t work, I`m hoping that there is an easy way similar to this that might work.

Thanks in anticipation,

Andy

I think our keys here in the states all came as remotes. Does the key have a battery? If it does try changing it and try to reprogram again. Or try and use a good key in the ignition, and use the dead key in the door. Or it may be that you have to do the key thing three times in a row? It should have something about programming the keys in the owner's manual.

Thanks for the reply,

I went out and tried it again several times in a row this time and still no joy, I also tried swapping the keys over so the non functioning key was in the door whilst I started the car with the working key, but no joy. The battery looks good in the keyfob, maybe the electronic tag bit is damaged. I looked in the manual, but nothing about reprogramming a key, only mentions the keyless entry system which I don`t have :-(

Any more thoughts gratefully received.

Andy.

Some cars do have 2 working keys with immobilizer
and 1 key to syncronize the car with the keys.
So if you needed to get either new keys or new
immobilizer system - you needed first to use the
1st key to syncronize the system.
I don't know if this is the case with Audi, but
with couple of other German cars it'll work.
