Assuming you're talking about the alarm that also alerts you to lights left on, and probably other things like improperly latched seatbelts, the unit failed three times on my previous A4 (a '97 2.8). Luckily, each repair was under warranty, because the failure of this $4 or so module would have cost me something in the neighborhood of $750 each time if the repairs had been out-of-warranty.
