View Full Version : CD for 97A6Q JKar 02-24-2002, 12:44 PM I have a 97 A6 Q wagon with a Bose sound system but no CD. Can anyopne explain my options in installing a CD player? thanks, Joe ShoppingKartRacer 02-24-2002, 03:15 PM You should already have all the harness for the cd changer installed. Check your trunk, you should have jacks to plug in the Audi CD Changer. Remember that you can't just buy any cd changer, you *have to* get it through Audi. good luck csblack 02-24-2002, 05:10 PM Also check Crutchfield they have adaptor kits for the Audi. Decolliber 02-24-2002, 07:07 PM I bought a six CD changer from Audi dealer for about $500 (extortion!), for my 97A6QA. You need to order the mounting bracket too. I recall that there was some problem with the bracket; the original one is no longer made and it took them while to figure out that it had been superceded by another. I belive that the dealer alos has to install it because the radio needs ot be programmed to recognise the CD. beep-beep 02-25-2002, 08:29 AM First of all check the changer connector in the trunk. It in on the US-drivers side niche. If you got 13-pin connector, you can get quite chip Audi OEM CD changer or Panasonic adaptor. If you got 8-pin DIN connector (more likely), you got the old CD changer (part number 4D0-035-111, but better to check the connector). You can buy the OEM CD changer for ~$500 or find a used one on 4sale or ebay (I got mine for $350). Installation is easy and you do not really need a mounting hardware. The heavy duty Velcro worked fine for me. You can use non-OEM cd changer with FM or tape adaptor ($300 all together), but you will loose some quality. Today I personally would opt for MP3 player with tape adaptor. It is not as "stealth" as OEM CD changer, but much more convenient in terms of music selection. shazam123 02-25-2002, 07:59 PM I replaced the factory Bose in my 95-A6 with a Blaupunkt aftermarket CD player about a month ago. It will take about 1.5 hours. Search this forum or the audio forum for "Gamma" and you should find my post. For the price of just the CD changer alone, you can get an incredible aftermarket unit. This way you will have all new stuff that is under warranty. JKar 02-26-2002, 11:11 AM Hey beep-beep, If I pick up a used audi unit and plug it in to the existing connector, is there any "programming'that needs to be dont to the head? BTW I have a 8 pin round connector /thanks, Joe beep-beep 02-26-2002, 12:16 PM JKar 02-27-2002, 05:13 AM audilover917 04-14-2004, 07:38 PM Hey beep-beep, does the 13- pin cd changer connector look kinda like the end of a printer cable? If that's it, what kind of changer fits it or are there adaptors to make it fit other typps. ie. 8-pin round? |
