Hi All!

I've been having sporadic probelms with my front doors latching.

The passenger door needs quite a slam to get latched, and my driver side door is beginning to exhibit the same behavior.

Over the winter, I went through a few instances where the driver's door would not latch. A lot of fiddling was needed to get it closed. A few days ago, I noticed that it was doing roughly the same thing; it doesn't full catch on the first slam.

Does this sound like something which can be remedied with a few shots of WD40? Or do you think I should have it looked at?

Thanks - Joel

Sounds like the striker bolts need to be adjusted, they are the bolts on the body of the car (not the door heheh) that the door latches on to.

You can adjust them yourself, just loosen em up with a screwdriver and tap them inward towards the inside of the car, see if it helps.

I tried to on my car, but could never get it right no matter how hard I tried. So I had a local bodyshop align the doors, and adjust the striker bolts for the two front doors. Only cost me $100, and hey, I have almost no wind noise now!

I was just in Ann Arbor for 3 days and would have loved to help you do it yourself for nothing! Darn it. That sucks that you're out a $100. The next time I'm in Ann Arbor we should meet up. I'd love to check out your car...

I don't mind parting with $100 to know my doors are exactly were they are supposed to be... but hey, doing it for free is every better!

I checked the striker plate on Friday afternoon and damned if the thing wasn't completely loose!

Now if I can find the right torx screwdriver....
