What kind of windshield washer fluid does the factory(?) put into the resevoir? It smells like rubbing alcohol. If your ventilation system is open at the time you squirt the windshield, it clears your nostrils while it clears your windshield!

Apparently it is supposed to be very hard on the paint surfaces if it is not wiped up immediately.<p>TGB 1999 1.8T qMS (In port)

I used to get asphyxiated every time I washed my windshield until finally last week at my 6 month service I had them replace it. Much better. Like a normal car now.
