I'm really excited about the A4 Avant, but I am a little worried about buying one since several acquaintances have told me horror stories about having to have their entire front ends replaced very early on in the life of the vehicle. Can anybody put this to rest, or is this an Achilles Heel of the Audi family?
Thanks!

Dumb European question. Do you mean the bodywork or the suspension? If you mean the suspension there was a known problem resulting in re-bushing of some early verisions of the Avant and Sedan.
Have not heard of entire front end replacements. Check out http://tech.vw.com for more info.

You even see posts here about a person with a 99.5 model year having their bushings, control arms, or tie rods replace.
My A4 has had the front bushings, wheel bearings, tie rods, and ALL control arms replaced. All of these repairs were independent of one another. Each taking multiple visits to correct. This coupled with other problems have had my A4 at the dealer an average of every 6 weeks in the past year.
Good Luck

May I ask which year your vehicle was produced?

Hi Mike,
I did mean suspension, but I can understand the confusion. Interestingly, I did go to the URL you posted, and didn't find anything particularly alarming. Perhaps those with the suspension problems were flukes? Kind of difficult to digest.
Thanks again,

Well, that pretty much settles it for me then. Thanks for sharing, Problem Cars! --Quicheman
