Love the car. I've got 1700 miles on my 99.5 1.8T. Today i went to drop my girlfriend off at the airport, when i got back into my car and started it, the trip computer/radio station/temperature panel in the center of the dash is completely dark. When i turn the key, the "press clutch to start" message comes on, when started i get an "OK" at the top of the panel, but then utter darkness. I know that the computer panel was operating on my way, because my girlfriend commented on the temperature being colder than it was (since the panel read it at about 55 degrees).

Any thoughts? I tried the selection switches, i tried turning off the car and back on a couple times. The vehicle performs normal, the gauges all are operating, the red backlighting works.

Actually, it's less severe than that. Sounds like you have the trip computer turned off. To turn it back on, depress the button towards the bottom of the stalk. (check owners manual)

All you have to do is "Turn ON" the trip computer. Check your owner's manual.
