Default What does oil on a spark plug mean? What could cause this?

Hi, earlier today I thought I would pull my spark plugs to check out the condition of each one. I was unable to pull two (since I didn't have all my tools on me). But was able to get the other three.

Upon pulling these, the spark plug connector and spark plug in "spot 4" were excessively covered in oil. What does this mean? Is there a cause for this?

Note: I understand that I should pull all plugs out since each chamber is different, but I was unable to as stated above heh.

Default Piston rings or valve seals...sorry bud. Replace, and check again after a week

to see how severe it is...

I think it might be a leaky valve cover gasket. It looks like plug # 4 is missing the compressable washer. I don't know if that would allow stuff through at the bottom or not. I just changed my plugs when I did the 034 injectors. Mine had oil on htem too. I figured I would change the valve cover gasket when it gets warmer outside.
Good Luck,
Bryan

all of the plugs I pulled had the compressable washer installed on them still.

Default Based on the plug tip

I would say the valve-cover gasket is leaking.

Rings or valve seals would show oil on the plug tip, not on the above the threads.

Default as others stated, no oil on tips = no oil in CC. You're good with changing the.....

VC gasket. If you shine a flashlight down the plug well, you'll surely see the trail of oil emanating from the gasket that surrounds the plug well...look about an inch-and-a-half down. Your VC 'gasket' is actually two parts, one that goes around the perimeter of the head/vc, and one that lays in the middle and seals the plug wells. The telltale sign is that there's oil on the end of the sparkplug connector itself...dead giveaway. Only way oil gets there is to leak from the gasket down.

Default You might want to replace that plug lead as well. They're available individually from.....

the dealer. It might be pretty nasty and you might experience rough running as the rubber gets mushy and deteriorates causing a bad connection.
