Well, I finally got my boost gauge (Autometer 2601) installed into the console. It took about 3 hours in the (near) freezing temperature of western NY. Anyway, this install is definitely not for everyone. I had my friend help with the dremel, just couldn't think of doing it myself.
I fitted the gauge from the front for the console where 2 of the 3 blanks used to be. To fit a 2" gauge into a 1.8" box was impossible... so I had to use the dremel to bore out the rest of the console bezel! Ouch!! Much of it was trial-and-error: shave of abit of plastic off, try to fit the gauge. repeat step 1. After 2 hours of that, we got it so it is perfect (hard to believe)! The gauge's bezel covered whatever uneven cuts. So, if you would imagine, the only thing protruding the console is the bezel of the gauge. Tapped the pressure line between the fuel regulator and the intake manifold. Tap the light at the fuse panel (lights up (red) when the key is in - much like the insturment panel). I will take some pictures this weekend of the setup (where to tap the line, where the line comes through the firewall, where to get the power source for light, how the gauge looks in day and night). I wish I had my camera last night when my friend was boring the console (hacked up LOTS of plastic).
Honestly though, it does look very nice now that it's finished.
More news to come....
Cris

Where did you get a gauge with red numbers that match the Audi gauges? And how much did you pay for it?
Bill P
Blk A4 1.8t QMS & all Wett
Bill,
The numbers aren't red. The gauge's theme: Black face, white letter (boost side), yellow letters (vac. side), the needle is red, back light is also red (you can choose green or clear). Very nice gauge, btw. I got it from Summit Racing for 41.99 + 5.95 for handling. Model # 2601... it's the one of the left side of the 3 gauges.
Cris
