Could you help me out?
1. I have a Tiptronic with my 2.4 A4......I just wondered about tear and wear rate of my transimission system while using a Tiptronic. Will it shorten the life of transmission system?
2. I have a strange smell when I turn on the A/C every morning......I heard from someone that it's better to turn the compressor off and use the highest fan speed few minutes before turn the engine off.....it's to chase away moisture from the condensor. Anyway, I don't have the compressor off function with my 99 A4 (a minor change model)....using the ECON mode helps very little since the compressor is not fully off. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I think the tear and wear rate of the whole transmission will be identical except if you always overrev the Tiptronic mode up until 5000+ rpm when it starts to upshift a gear every day, then it would be really bad for the tyranny. If you change gears appropriately, don't overrev Tiptronic and kick-down very often. Your Tiptronic transmission should last a very long time if you keep changing transmission oil under schedule.
Its true that you better turn on the fan speed to the highest in order to eliminates those smell associates with air conditioning. I usually turn off the air-con after I go off the freeways and leave the fan speed at the maximum speed for a few minutes. It also can ventilate some bad smell ever you turn on the A/C during hot summer days. More, can you explain which climate control do you have? Standard rotary knobs one standard on 1.6 and 1.8, 96-99 automatic climate control or 99.5+ newer A6-like climate control?
Hope this help,
Tom
