By the way, Audi of America returned my recent call regarding the factory fill. They use 5w/40 although I do not know the brand. I do know there is nothing in it except dino juice!. No break-in additives, etc. JC M. 11-09-1998, 08:02 AM . T2 11-09-1998, 08:30 AM . T2 11-09-1998, 08:31 AM . tomt 11-09-1998, 08:56 AM John 11-09-1998, 08:59 AM Planning 10W-30 for Spring-Fall. Changes at 3750, filters at 7500 with dealer. I have a 2.8 quattro. Comments welcome. Big O 11-09-1998, 09:18 AM SteveW 11-09-1998, 11:03 AM During the last 2 winters I lived in Canada it would get so damn cold even the mobil 1 was a slow crank on really cold days. I'd suggest the 0-30 grade, it turned over great in any really cold conditions. Now I live in Sunny San Diego and use 15-50 mobil 1 year round.
And no! I don't miss the winter - at all.. Larry R 11-09-1998, 06:55 PM I wanted the dealer to install Mobil 1, and took in 5 qts of 5w30. This seemed to be what the manual recommended. Dealer said manual was wrong, Audi needs 15w50 (even in the winter, in NJ), and installed his own. ChuckH 11-09-1998, 11:07 PM I don't think anyone makes a conventional 15W-50. Kendal makes a Super D 15W-40, but that's the closest I'm aware of. Perhaps your dealer used the Mobil 1 15W-50. You should ask. I would think they would have charged you for it though, if that's the case. As I'm sure you are aware from below, I agree with your dealers view on the weight applications. :-)
Charles
Marko Litmanen 11-10-1998, 12:03 AM Mobil 0w-40, year-round (summer as warm as +30C, winter as cold as -35C).
Marko Litmanen
A3 1.8T Wett 1.0 K&N carlos rodriguez 11-10-1998, 01:36 AM
nt |
