I got burned up enough about this wet braking problem that I sent an E-mail to AoA. Their response is below; my original E-mail below it.

COMPLAIN, FOLKS; IT'S THE ONLY WAY THEY'LL TAKE ANY ACTION. Don't know what will come of this, but will see!

comments: I have a '98 A4 Avant, serial no.
WAUGD28D8WA234571. I have what I feel
is a serious safety concern with this
car. The following is a copy of the
statement I filed with the NHTSA.

Problem is major braking delay in rain
(worse with heavy rain). When push on
pedal, get NO braking action for 1-3
seconds, then brakes act normal. Pedal
feels firm/normal. Seems like there is
water sheeting on the rotors; brakes
have to wipe water off before get any
braking. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST
case of this phenomena I have felt in
30 years, 750,000 miles of driving.
Dealer informed at routine service;
could find nothing wrong.

Dealer is xxxxxxx

They actually listened to me on the braking subject. They said that they would investigate it and call me back......I thought they would never call back! They did and said there was never any complaints about wet braking perforamance, that the A4 had the best brakes on earth and that I should go see my dealer....end of conversation!!!!!

I filled out the NHTSA report and installed Mintex with the hope for some imporvement. I have also noticed that the braking degrades to much worst in cold (approx. 33 degrees F) water and with heavy salt. The Europeans have a fix for their A4's why not us?

hi,for sure it scares you when it happens, here in Scotland we have more than our fair share of cold wet weather. Until the recently incorporated Audi brake mod(ie change of pad material) this lack of braking in the wet was a common frighting occurance. Now it only happens when pads/disks are left cold/wet for a few miles.I've also had the "park up with hot brakes in the evening and come back in the morning and have NO brakes situation" I was pushing so hard i could feel the seat springs in my back!!! The answer I have found are Tarox G88 disk's in standard size with their red dot pads...gets rid of the fade too
good driving AAB

If I haven't had a problem in other cars (incl. prev. Audis), why should I move???
