Well, I am starting to see and hear people referring to the new Jettas and Golfs MkIV simply as "A4"s (because the previous designations: A3, A2, A1). Just think... some years down the line, VW will have their own A6 and A8! :)<br>I guess that's what happens when you have so many siblings running around under one family!<p>Cris <br>

That actually refers to the base VW model designation for the base running gear. That happens to be VW's A body line. So the first generation of golfs/rabbits were the A1's. The outgoing Golf is built on what VW calls the A3 frame. No relation between the Golf A4 and our A4. <p>I think and someone can correct me if I'm wrong the old 4000/80/90/A4 cars are on the Audis B platform.<p>-randy<br>
