My friend had his 3000 GT changed and spent a fortune on a new clutch. AWD car too. Would the A4 be any cheaper? Maybe more?

View Full Version : Anyone change the clutch yet? I'm guessing it's very expensive. DC 10-22-1998, 11:39 AM My friend had his 3000 GT changed and spent a fortune on a new clutch. AWD car too. Would the A4 be any cheaper? Maybe more? Todd W 10-22-1998, 11:59 AM
Is the highest I've seen for a Porsce/Audi shop to replace a quattro's clutch and associated repairs. The 300GT VR4 is a monster to work on, quattro is easier with north-south layout. A fwd would be much less.
Todd W Tony 10-22-1998, 12:09 PM Wow, I paid 325 dollars to get my clutches replaced on my 1990 Eagle Talon TSI/Turbo. I hope the Clutches are a warranty item. Edmund L 10-22-1998, 01:45 PM I just dropped off my car at the dealer on tuesday this week, and I happened to ask him "exactly" what the Audi Advantage covered, and what the warranty would cover on top of that. My service rep basically told me that whatever isn't defective isn't covered by the warranty, and the advantage does not cover wear & tear items - however, i find this kinda confusing, as they are changing my brakes under the AA program (even though I thought brakes were a wear-tear item), but clutches aren't? HMMM...
Edmund Louie
98 A4Q 30V KeremD 10-22-1998, 02:47 PM My sales representative told me that clutch is a AA item, and he told me that during maintanence, they wpould change it if it is necessary. Probably this was when I was buying my car and I have no proof for it. donp 10-22-1998, 02:50 PM Tell him to read the USA warranty book.
Page 9 of my 1997 USA Warraty booklet
Coverage:
- Manufacturer required regularly scheduled vehicle maintenace as listed in your Audi Maintenance booklet.
- Replacement of items due to normal wear which are excluded from the new vehicle warranty coverage such as wiper blades inserts, brake pads, clutch lining and light bulbs.
- Service adjustements (Includes wheel alignment, wheel balance and headlight adjustements when required due to normal wear and tear.)
- Fluid top-off at time of regularly scheduled, applicable manufacturer required maintenace. (Includes coolant, hydraulic oil, brake fluid, and windshield washer solvent.)
Edmund L 10-22-1998, 06:41 PM Thanks! I was looking for the part in the manual which said *explicity* every part that they did and didn't cover.
Edmund Louie ChuckH 10-22-1998, 07:20 PM I'm sure Audi probably charges about $1500-$2000 to do it, but an independant could probably do it for under $1000, using the Sachs clutch. The actual labor involved shouldn't be that bad, because of the driveline orientation.
ChuckH Ian S. 10-22-1998, 08:30 PM LCP 10-23-1998, 06:52 AM ...but I don't remember if they replaced the entire thing or not, nor do I recall how much they billed Audi for it, but for some reason I think it was ~$850; I only thought that there was a slight problem with the clutch cable when I brought it in for its first service, but I guess I was wrong.
