Wow! I picked up my car Wednesday night and had only put about 260 or so miles on it up until this morning. I checked the rims closely and there was sooo much brake dust on them! I'm wondering if the fact that it rained a bit last night had anything to do w/it? I couldn't believe how much brake dust there was! The car was still pretty clean, but the rims...they took away from the rest of the car they were so dirty, especially the fronts(as you all know)! Instead of washing the car, I just wiped down the rims w/water and paper towels! What a difference! Geeeez, it looks like I'll be doing that once a week if I want to keep my 7-spokes looking sharp!
JT 99' 1.8Tqms

Paper towels aren't the best thing to use. They can easily scratch a finish. Would you use them to dry your paint after you wash the car? If not, then don't use them on the wheels because they are painted (clear coated) just like the car body. Some paper towels are better than others, however, but I've never seen any that will compete with terrycloth in "softness".
Your brake dust problem should diminish a little bit with increased miles. The pads will wear in a little bit and that should help. However, it will always be bad with the stock pads.

I get comments about the brake dust all the time. Makes me feel good to know that I am getting utility out of the car as shown by the brake dust. Got a few comments on Thursday about it, my friends said that it looked cool.
Albert
Raybestos $59.95 (lifetime garantee), easy to change and a whole lot less dust. But if you for some reason don't want to change them try waxing the rims the dust will come off much easier..
