I hit <i>something</i> and it not only f'd the rocker panel, but it also put a large gash in the sheet metal behind the pass. side door. I could stick my hand and forearm into the hole, and touch the speaker...

I wouldn't go a lot bigger, not much sidewall to work with. 16" wheel is the largest I would go, just like 17" is the largest I'd use on a CQ or B4 (coincidentally, I am running 17's on the CQ).
