I've just moved to southern Ontario and my tires are due for replacement. I know there's probably a FAQ for this, but does anyone have some good suggestions for all-season A4 tires for Ontario?
Thanks,
Michael

although the only snow I get is on swnowboarding trips, but they seem to do fine on the snow (for all season tires)

I ran 4000's in Toronto a few years ago on a fwd Mazda 626 and decided that I would never sacrifice w/all-seasons again. Traction was almost non-existent on ice/packed snow. I switched over to Blizzak's mid winter and it made a world of difference. I use Nokian Hak 1s on my A4 in the winter. I always recommend to anyone who'll listen NOT to go the all-season route - they're okay at everything and great at nothing....

First, these are all seasons. Like Gordon says the all-season vs. winter vs. summer tire debate has been hashed and re-hashed and anyone can check the archives for the thousands of posts on this subject.
I agree that the traction on the Blizzaks is significantly better than the 4000's on packed snow/ice (don't know about the Hak's, but I assume they perform similiar to the Blizzaks). They're a true winter tire and should perform much better in winter conditions.
If I lived in a place that got more snow/ice (like Toronto) I would also get dedicated winter tires. Everyone should do this.
I can tell you that the stock Dunlop SP8000E's have NO TRACTION (almost non-existent to coin a phrase) on packed snow/ice. The 4000E's are a SIGNIFICANT improvement over the 8000's. I feel comfortable with them and they serve my purpose very well.

Great on ice though, just like the Labatt Blue commercial

Michael,
If you want the absolute best winter tire go with the Blizzak. In southern Ontario this might be overkill.Alternatives I have used are-Yokohama Guardex-80% as good as Blizzak or Dunlop Graspic. This is what I am currently running.Combined with Quattro this works very well.Tire is less aggressive than Blizzack and appears to be wearing @ about 60% the rate of the Blizzack which are good for about 50k km.
