I am having trouble finding a decent dealership to purchase an a4 from. I have actually had one salesman tell me that the sport package is purely cosmetic and a wase of money. Of course I later realized that that dearlship didn't have a any sport package equipped cars.
If anybody has had a decent experience with a Chicago-area dealership please let me know name of dealer and salesman. Also, what % should I expect to pay over invoice?
Please e-mail responses if possible. I tried to check the archives put I kept getting error when click on "search forums". Thank you
-Stu Koch
skoch1@shrike.depaul.edu
I just put down a deposit on a 1999 A4 2.8. I dealt with McGrath Audi in Glenview, Il. Talk to Jeff Harris, the sales manager. I paid about 1000 over invoice for them to order my car. Actually it was 3.5% over. They are a reputable dealership and it was the easiest buying exp. I was expecting a battle going in, and it was really a piece of cake.

I can't say that I've found any dealer offering as good a buyer's experience as Motorwerks of Barrington (if you're in the market for an SLK, they have the best buyer program I've ever seen). No Audi dealer in the Chicago area, in my experience, offers an "amazingly good" experience. I had a particularly bad experience, and I do not allow the dealer I purchased the car from to perform warranty repairs... I'd rather pay for parts and time and have Motorwerks do it than have my dealer destroy the car. You should get quotes from every dealer possible, bargain as hard as you can, grab a quote in writing for a certain car (with VIN on the quote), walk out of the showroom, take it to the other dealers, match it, get lower, go to the others, have them match that. Sounds like a horribly cynical view of Chicago dealers, but it seems like a pretty cynical design for a dealer structure -- it seems like Audi is attempting to offer Japanese brands alongside Audis, but completely mismarketing and mismanaging the strategy. I'd even go so far as to say that Audi is doing a worse job integrating Subaru and Honda and Acura than Chevrolet did while integrating Geo. All I can say is that the A4 is such an incredible automobile that it makes up for all the a$$holes you encounter at the dealers.
Cameron

I second that. They're happy to brag about having the best price, until you let them know that you've been seeking a better deal elsewhere. Apparently they never had Econ. 101.

I received my A4 from McGrath in July. I have heard about them playing hardball with prices, but I didn't have problems. Overall, as a dealer they have been exceptional to me, did my control module free. I also had an Integra from them years ago.
