Has anyone noticed that when in 4th or 5th gear and cruising, that the car is actually a little slower at WOT and that when backing off a tad, the car actually speeds up? I've noticed this more and more lately since changing jobs and actually having to drive on the freeways.
BTW, I am speaking of a completely stock 99.5 1.8TQS 5-speed

That makes sense, I think. From what I have seen from several folks cars with boost guages on them, the boost actually backs off a bit above about 5000 rpm. (I think both cars I have seen this in were chipped, so this may not apply for stock.) In any event, max boost occured up to around 5000rpm and then backed down several psi up to redline. By backing off the throttle a bit, you may be experiencing this and actually getting more boost.
Does this seem to make sense, folks?
