Thanks to all the folks who gave advice about mounting brackets when I asked the question a few pages back. Here's the problem: According to IMPEX and Clair, the stange 3 piece bracket that I have is the only one available. The old U bracket which everyone advised me on was discontinued a couple of years ago and replaced with the one I have. It's supposed to be some sort of universal thing that will fit all Audis. Problem is, no one actually knows how it's supposed to go in the car. I spent a couple hours this weekend trying to get the various holes to line up, with no luck. So, anyone know how to install this stupid thing?

FWIW, I bought the same bracket kit ($70 from my dealer) and ended up drilling a hole in the roof of my deck support to attach it. After I was done installing the CD player, I decided it took up too much space anyway, and put the CD changer in the "tool bin" on the left hand side of the trunk floor. The sucker wedged in there perfectly, and after adjusting the horizontal/vertical thing, it performs flawlessly. The bracket?......well it was a $70 learning experience.
I was also told by Audi that the new "universal" bracket was the only one available. I also spent a great deal of time trying to match up the holes. You're right it just doesn't fit! I drilled some holes in the trunk roof (be careful!) and screwed it in place with sheet metal screws. Works fine.
I went through the same excercise about a month ago. I ended up using only two of the 15 million existing holes in the bracket. In addition I drilled a new hole in the bracket to match one on the roof of the trunk, and another one in the trunk. I kinda wanted to keep the drilling inside the trunk to a minimum - you gotta be careful not to drill too deep. After all it worked, but for $70 they could have come up with a better bracket.

I bought a bracket from Negherbon Audi
in Oakland CA, for 25$, it fit perfectly.
I think this was the stock U bracket,
they still had 3 left.
I think I had posted this info before, along
with the part No.
Good luck,
