The Nov. issue of R&T has a question from an A6 (I think 1996) owner in it's technical section regarding excessive oil usage. R&T responds by saying that 1 quart of usage per 1000 miles is OK for an Audi.

Even though the service manager and technicians think there must be "something" wrong and that they've never seen nor heard of another 2.8 burning that much, their hands are tied by AoA.

Its really sad when the service dept. agrees with your problem, knows something is wrong, wants to do the right thing but can't because of AoA..

Anything less than a quart every 1,000 miles is considered to be within spec. If you really want to be shocked, Porsche considers anything less than 1 qt. every 500 MILES to be within spec.
