View Full Version : From red to amber...How does one do it? Morley 10-11-1999, 09:47 PM How do I change my rear turn signals from red to amber? Any help would be appreciated. 98 Avant 2.8 Q tip S stanj 10-11-1999, 09:54 PM I did it - I installed the Euro tail signals. The only other alternative is to get 96/97 tail lights - there is no way to get the lights glow orange thru the red filter (red is a primary color). - Stan

Euro tail lights (w/ part #)

AH 10-12-1999, 12:56 AM I just took a look at the my 99.5 A4 , and I think it might be a possible solution to have amber turn signal again , which won't cost as much as several hundred bucks to have a euro type tail light installed. is that possible to swap the circuit position of the turn signal light with the reverse signal light, and replace the original white bulb with a yellow bulb instead? just curious Ty 10-12-1999, 04:05 AM Just my opinion but to me, amber seems to be outdated since most newer cars staring in the mid 90's and up are starting to switch over to all red. Also my opinion but the more color in the rear of the car makes it seem less elegant and detracts from the cars natural lines. Most people I know either try to convert to all red or even clear in order to look more modern and simplified. It's more difficult to distinguish between brake/tail lights/signals than just brake/tail lights. The fact that new cars have all-red is merely a phenomenon in North America. In the rest of the world such a setup is illegal. MarkC 10-12-1999, 04:33 AM mitro 10-12-1999, 05:04 AM Paul H. (in MD) 10-12-1999, 05:08 AM I agree that amber turn signals are more visible at a distance (safer), but some are awfully bright when you're sitting right behind them (up close). Doesn't do much for one's night vision... Paul '98 A4 1.8TQTS Motoman 10-12-1999, 05:12 AM n t n t RickM 10-12-1999, 06:49 AM GusS 10-12-1999, 07:00 AM The taillight looks red and glows orange. The N. American E-class merc's have it to give you an example. Passat/Jettas are another. adc 10-12-1999, 08:52 AM ..to decrease the turn signal intensity at night. It totally blinds the other drivers in the back. adc Mark P 10-12-1999, 09:07 AM The clean look of red and clear plastic combined with the functionality of amber blinking turnsignals. marmer 10-12-1999, 09:53 AM You could probably do it if you swap the connectors in the harness as James W. has described in his Euro taillights mod. But, don't you then lose your backup lights? Not a good tradeoff IMHO. stanj 10-12-1999, 10:39 AM When you take a yellow bulb and put a red filter in front of it, only red will come thru because yellow is a composite color. OTOH, when you take a red bulb and a yellow filter, the light will be red. - Stan dB 10-12-1999, 11:31 AM mitro 10-12-1999, 12:34 PM stanj 10-12-1999, 03:55 PM mitro 10-12-1999, 08:11 PM |
