so basically I heat it up and yank it out? will the paint come off too?

I just did it this past weekend......Heat it up a little. Check the paint w/ you hand so you don't get it to hot. Slip some dental floss under it and saw it off. I used WD40 to take off the goo.

Didn't leave any marks on my Silver paint/clr coat.
