I am not issuing a statement here to be a criticism of any tuner, but to alert people who are thinking of modifying their 1.8T A4's
For most who will only hit the gas in a occasional squirt on the street the kits are fine.
For those who do more spirited driving and take their car to track days or anyone wanting power 250HP for more thank 30 sec read on.
I have a 250HP Kit and I can tell you I believe more mods are needed thank any tuner is currently offering.
Heat is a problem in the A4, I challange any one that can produce a constant 250HP for more than 2 minutes!
Insufficiant Intercooler air flow to keep it cool, Air Box ducts heats up as insufficient
sheilding and close positioning to "HOT" turbo and poor air flow across turbo.
If these where not the case 250HP would be ample for most people.
I bet many people who have gone to 300HP kits are only getting 230-250HP reliably anyway becaust of the above mentioned proplems.
Even with a short 30sec flooring of the car, the engine bay gets Hot, try it your self, pullover and wait for 10 sec and put your hand on the bonnet, get a couple of eggs ready to fry!
No wonder there is no hood insulation on the 1.8T A4, If you have it, I would remove it, it only helps to hold the heat in the engine bay. I would also imagine a stock 1.8T would produce similar heat if pushed for a minute or so.
The less heat you have in your engine bay the longer every thing will last.
This is my 0.02c worth.
