I'm new to these forums but they look like a great place for info now that I'm looking into buying my first audi. I currently drive an '87 bmw 528e which is my first car. It's been great but I'm feeling the need for more power. I have a friend who drives a '93 90 quattro and I am really impressed with the car and am now looking to get a 90 of my own.

I was wondering what to look and look out for in these cars. A 90 that I saw locally had around 120k miles on it, is this a lot for a '93? Also, what is the difference between the S, CS, and CS quattro versions?

Thanks for your help and any suggestions you may have to offer to an Audi newbie.

the main difference between '93-95 90 models is FrontWheelDrive or AllWhellDrive and quattro(AWD) is one of those reasons why people choose AUDI. However quattro version is gonna cost more:-) also quattro ONLY came in 5 SPD transmission, and even if u buy a FrontWheelDrive 90, u better look for one that is 5spd and NOT AUTO. There are several ppl who had their auto trannies die, and MikTip(he is on this forum) had to put in a 5spd transmission instead of dead auto one.

oh, i was definantly going for the 5 speed, i wouldnt have it any other way :)

so you would reccomend the quattro version, thats what I was looking at since its definante audi trademark. What is the difference in handeling between an rwd car like my bimmer, and a audi w/ quattro?

with 174HP's that 93 90 has its pretty hard to do all wheels burnout on the dry road, so when rwd drivers has to gradually add throttle while turning (not to have their rear tires spin and do 360*) in awd u can just give full throttle and go! however u can still fishtail if u got LOTS of HP! But u still feel more confident on the road with AWD. In the rain it grips awasome, and snow is FUN!

I would look at a quattro. If you are used to RWD, you probably won't be happy with FWD. The 93 was the first year of the V6 in the 90. There were issues with valley pan and head gasket leaks in the early V6 cars. Hopefully they've all been replaced under warranty and not a concern now. BTW, all Quattro 90's in the US are 5 speeds. 120k miles is not a lot for any German car if it has been taken care of.

If power is really what you want, the V6 cars aren't the place to look. You will get the best performance out of the box from a 91 200TQ, or the 93-96 S4/S6, all have the turbo 20V motor which is ~220 hp stock, and can be easily upped to 300+hp. They are also nicer cars than the 90's (IMO). They are expensive to own though.

I've got a 95 90Q...I like it as a well rounded, capable vehicle.
