I just got the "orange fountain" on my dash tonight. I was freaked out by the BEEP. It sounded serious, and it took me a moment to decipher the picture. Anyways, I looked in the archives but all I could find on the subject was complaints on the smell. Would dumping in standard 70% isopropyl be the solution?

i believe it states nothing about any special washer fluid you should use. one thing i've noticed. the a4 sucks down washer fluid like a dead camel. the resevoir is _huge_. but it really gets the windows cleaned. :)

There are a few things to consider:

1. headlight washer messes up your car
2. windshield itself is reportedly "soft", "easily scratched".

So I clean the windshield and blades often by hand (20/20). To alleviate concern #1, I use destilled water. I use a VERY little amount (less than half prescribed) of Rain/X w/s washer. It cleans OK, and water runs off the ws at speed. I do not have chatter.

...if I remember correctly, it has a lot of alcohol in it. In between visits to the dealer when I want to top mine off, I just buy some of the blue stuff found at K-Mart or Pep Boys....works fine for me here in S.E. PA.
