a 10vt or a 20vt??

I want to totaly restore an engine transplant for my CQ for a little sidejob, I dont really know much about the Audi engines cause I am new to the audi world, I have worked mostly on american engines and have restored and transplanted chevy engines before, I am thinking about refurbishing a 20vt and then getting my RPI (my local euro tuner) to do the actual transplant. but if the transplant is not that complicated then I will attempt it myself,
tell me what you think. Money is sort of an issue. Dont have that much =(

you would not have to 'downgrade' the fuel system to accomodate the older technology in the 10v. Unless you want to do a custom fuel system, the 20v would be less of a headache. Also, depending on the emissions laws in your state, you may not be allowed to put an engine older than you car in it. In this case, the 20vt would be your only legal option.

so is the 20vt a "plug in' to my engine bay, or do I need to do some mods to the wiring systems and other stuff, I want to take the AC anyway, so that doesnt matter if it doesnt work, but I am thinking about other stuff that I will need to plug this baby it

Electrically, it is more complex. If you remove the AC, have manual climate control, and no AutoCheck (like me), it is reletivily simple. Just supply power to the right pins at the right times, and it'll run. Gauges take a little more snooping in the harness. I've heard the the climate control is the biggest problem with the wiring. I also doubt the trip computer is easy. Check my picture poster (link below my sig) for pictures of the process. As you can see in the picture, there is quite a bit of wiring to deal with.

BigMouse -

The 10vt was sold in 1990 (200 and 200q) and 1991 (non-quattro 200's only), so that isn't an issue of legality. Besides, Cali is different than most States and Canada. I can put a 1st Gen Camaro engine into my car if I felt like it, and no one would care at the DOT.

check out www.20v.org/S2 for the 20vt swap into the CQ.

check out my ongoing project page for 10vt into the CQ info.

Neither are easier or less painful than the other, really. Just comes down to what you want to get from the engine/car, and how much you want to spend. Doing EVERYTHING yourself in either case will really help drop the cost.
