A buddy of mine has started trying to convince me to cut the springs on my 1990 Coupe Quattro... He said that if you only remove one coil that there is an amazing difference in handling, and no resulting harm to the integrity of the spring.

He's a former Audi wrenchhead, and has done this to his GTI and BMW 2002, and said that it increased the steering feel and performance in a big way. He says that I'd love the difference, but it seems to me that I've heard nasty things about this in the past....

Anybody here done this on their Audi? Thoughts?

if you cut your springs, your wheels are going to be stuck out at a rediculous camber angle, and you're an idiot.

and they do stick out, which is IMHO cool, makes a wider base.
However a springs kit and shocks would make a better job:-)

You might as well diver it into a tree and then try to get it aligned.

I heat shrunk my springs on my 86GTi and had no problems. I hit the bump stop occasionally but thats what its there for. How does it make your wheels stick out also? That is a mystery to me.

the tops of real springs are flat, the top of cut springs are not. the steering components are not strong enough to hold the wheel upright by itslef.
