Is Audi ever going to build an A4 Coupe? I like everything about the A4 except for the four doors. Anybody know anything about a future model (TT is out of the question).

I think the coupe that has been speculated about in the press is likely to be on the A4 platform, yes, but you should expect it to have a more muscular style like the original quattro. Probably there will be little common sheetmetal if any. I hear this is a car that will fill the performance gap above the TT and below any future "baby" Lamborghini products. So, basically it will be a Porsche Carrera 4 fighter. JohnO Lawrence L. 10-09-1999, 09:39 PM Automobile Mag. fomr about 4-6 months ago reported that a facelift was due for the A4 - probably in the next couple years - most probable? MY2002. The A4 will (well, what Automobile Mag. reports) be available in: Cabriolet 4 door sedan 2 door coupe (think 328Ci) 3 Door hatchback (think 318Ti)- kinda defeats the purpose of the A3 doesn't it? 5 door wagon (the avant) The only reason why I would question this is that the magazine reports that a 3-door hatchback is on the way, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The Audi line up already has one of those - the A3, and for the possibility of the A3 being re-marketed in North America as the A4-hatch, don't count on it. The BMW 318Ti had phenomenally pathetic sales and the people at Audi aren't dumb. But an A4 coupe? Looks very promising. I've heard that the A4 is beating the 323i and 328i in sales, relentless of the fact that the 3-series is a new model, while the A4 is around 5 years old. But what would you pick? An A4 coupe of the outstanding 328Ci? Tough call there... Lawrence L. '86 5000 turbo - soon to be A4 2.8Q |
