Hey Everyone,

As some of you know, I retrofitted 2000 Euro Spec taillamps on my '98 recently. Earlier tonight, I helped a friend install my old '98 taillamps onto his '97 A4. For those who are also interested in doing this, you will be glad to know that it is a direct swap.

We didn't need to change any of the wiring in the harness, it was just swapping the actual taillamps and bulb holder assembly (and the painted plastic piece below the taillamps) and that was it. Everything lit up as they should, no need to touch anything in the wiring harness.

I suspect that the reverse would not be true. I don't think the '97 taillamp would simply plug in and work on a '98 because there are two bulbs for the taillamp on the '97 instead of just one. We didn't get to try it out tonight though, we didn't feel like spending the extra effort. (Whos' gonna swap in '97 taillamps onto a '98 anyway?) =Þ

Just thought I'd let you know.

You need to swap a couple of connectors in the wiring harness on each side. The turn signals and reverse lamps are flipped around.
