I have the 2 axles to install. One is shorter than the other, by about 3/4 " They also have identifying marks in them in the form of a groove on one and 2 grooves on the other near the outer CV end.

What side does the shorter axle on go on?

Not mentioned in the Bentley! Imagine that!

Judging from the looks of things, it goes on the passenger side?

You should be able to see the grooves by glancing under the car and looking near the small end of the outer CV boot.

...damn thing went up on me, so the speedometer and odometer don't work. I suppose I shouldn't complain... I can go as fast as I want and not put any miles on the car :)

i don't know the answer to your question but i know the importance of getting it right. i drove my car for about six months with a painful knocking sound from the right front everytime i went slowly over something like a driveway curb or a speed bump with my wheels turned. i had the car in countless times and no one could tell me what the problem was. then i had it in to get the front shaft seals replaced and cv joints repacked. when the tech took the axels out, he noticed that they had been reinstalled at some point on the wrong sides. very observant! luckily and very surprisingly there was no damage! put 'em back the right way and it's been great ever since. sorry for the length, but i had to share this with you guys - incase it happens to you!
