Right now I have my snows on my stock wheels. My summer tires -- Falken's in the stock size, are sitting in my father-in-laws garage. They have maybe 2000 miles on them and 90% of tread still on them.

So in a perfect world I'd love to move up to an 18" setup, but it seems that will be very expensive. BUT

If I stick with the a 17" setup, wheels ship free, already have tires, but I pay $100 for spacers and $100 for mount and balance, so my all in is roughly $800

If I go to 18's I can get a bolt on setup moounted and balanced for around $1300

So that is $500 difference if I assume that I can't sell my 17" tires on ebay or craigslist etc.

So, what would you do? Can I afford the 18's, yes -- would I rather get a chip or something else with that extra $500? yes.

which will offset the cost difference to some degree, and if you have summer and winter rubber on separate rims, you can do the summer/winter swap yourself. Not having to pay for removal/mount/balance twice a year will put more money in your pocket. Not a dilemma at all, IMO - and a good 18" wheel setup complements H-sport sways nicely.

I would say it is worth $500.

The question is buy a 18" setup, mounted and balanced and sell my 17" summer tires (no wheels) or mount my 17" summers on new wheels.

Buy new 18" wheel and tire combo -- $1300
Free mount and balance
No Spacers needed
Attempt to sell my Falkens (tires only in stock size)

OR

Mount my summer tires on new wheels -- $800
Have to pay for mounting
Have to buy spacers
Have to buy new lugs

but I run them in the summer and run dedicated snows in the winter. I tried winter #1 with the Falkens and was not happy with their snow performance.
