View Full Version : Poll: What other car do A4 drivers own besides the A4?

I myself owned a Miata before I bought the A4 1.8TQMS. Needed something more substantial for the long freeway drive to work plus weekend trips.

I am having a hard time separating from my Miata, though. Several people have already asked if I'm selling but so far I could resist.

I wanted an A4 in 1997 but Acura had a tremendous lease offer on the 2.5TL so I went with what my cash flow could afford at the time. Man was that a boring car. Super reliable, 30 months and 25K miles and just oil changes but no soul at all.

So I whined enough during the past 2 years and our kids are older so my wife and I sold our Minivan and she took the Acura. Well I went on a business trip and she drove the A4 for a week and now she understands what makes the A4 so special. We now take turns with the A4 and when the Acura lease is up we may own to A4's or if I can swing it an A4 and S4!

I also owned a 92 Subaru AWD Wagon along with the 99 Miata, but I only wanted one car. So I sold both and went for the A4, which is a great combination of my previous cars and then some.

Let me tell you guys, if you have any interest what so ever in owning a sport utility, you owe it to yourself to atleast test drive the new 99' Disco Series II with performance package. Although it is not very quick in 0-60 or off the line, it is definatley the most agile and stable SUV for cornering and braking around obsticles. Most of the reviews out there praise the Rover for superior off-road performance but play it down for on road performance. To me, I am not so much interested in 0-60 since I spend less than 1% of my driving time taking off from a stop light. I am however interested in being able to corner at high speeds with confidence, swerve in and out of parking lots and around obsticles without worrying about tipping or lossing a fender.

As far as off=roading, I took my Series II through 30" of water and climbed 43deg. hills with about 10 other friends. I have never needed to be winched out of anything but I have winched out nearly every one of them at one time or another. Not to mention, Hill Decent. You just point yourself down a hill, hit the HDC button and let go of everything but with a light grip on the steering wheel and it drives itself down by accelerating and braking and leaning aoutomatically!!! It is a miracle to hear the multi channel ABS, Traction control, HDC and drive train pulse rapidly from all four wheels at different times.

Water proof, the only 4-channel alltime 4wd system on the planet, 4 wheel traction control, hill decent, 18" wheels, loaded more than any other SUV and for no more than $44,000.

I call it the SUV to save the world.

I have driven just about every SUV be it 99' and 00', My Wife loved the Grand Cherokee and it took a lot of convincing to get her to check the Land Rover out but once she did, it was all over. I strongly urge you to check it out too. Even though I think the G Cherokee is fantastic, it just cannot even begin to compare to the Rover in 4WD capabilities. It has tons more room, same approx size, much more luxorious, higher resale value, more options, 2 sunroofs and much much more. Not to mention the heads you turn. One note, the Rover without the sport package is not a good idea.

It was a high school graudation gift. When I was younger I could not afford the insurance, as I got older it was not that nice of a car to drive (typicall GM mentality, put the stiffest springs on and called it 'performance' suspension). I sold the car 2 years ago with 4280 miles, all options (except digital dash and T-tops, I have Power Astroroof) and got $21K+ for it. The car was more fun wanting to own it than actually having it.

What kind of GN did you have? I've had an '87 T-type, an 87 GN, and currently own an 86 GN... They're a kick to drive (straight) and I didn't find anything that even suggested it having a harsh suspension. My current 86 drives like a typical GM luxo cruiser... the Billstiens and Hotchkis goodies are on the way! I like razing all my GN buddies... from a quality control standpoint they really were crappy cars.
