hi all,

too much info out there about chipping 1.8T sedans, but...

after perusing a bunch of stuff in the nifty new search engine... i can't seem to find much about the performance improvements of chipping the avant versions of the 1.8T. mainly, i'm curious about the standard performance times over the ~8.6/10.1s man/tip stock (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.), but i'm also curious about any changes to fuel economy, for better or worse... esp. since the joys of 1.8T ownership include bumping up the octane at the gas pump.

if anyone is gutsy... how about numbers on a modded avant 1.8T with *tiptronic*? ;)

thanks in advance!

I'm more than halfway to the magic 10k mile mark, where I will do both the chip and the swap to synthetic oil. Will let you know when I get there.

I have a 99.5 Avant that is chipped. I guess I sort of jumped the gun, because the car only has about 650 miles on it right now.

I have no idea what the numbers are like. I know that a Jeep Grand Cherokee blew me away at a traffic light before the chip. It's stronger, but I doubt that the car is in the 6 second range for 0-60. More likely a mid-7 second car. This is for the stick shift. I did not time the 0-60, so I can't tell you exactly, I'm just going by my seat-of-the-pants impression. The S4 has significantly more acceleration. Kind of makes me think that I should have considered the 30v V-6 with a PES supercharger. It does, however, feel stronger than a '92 Maxima SE 5-spd. and about on par with a '97 Maxima SE 5-spd. The '97 Maxima is high 6 second 0-60, so if anything, the Avant is a low 7 car.

Sorry for rambling so much. The more enjoyable gain that I've seen is from the coilover suspension. The chipped K03 1.8 engine is never going to be all that powerful, so having a suspension that allows me to outhandle an S4 and keep up with the M3s is very nice. :-)
