It rides firmer at 2 then at 1, so I just set it between them and the suspension angles are closer to stock. After I did this my tire wear slowed done dramatically.

Means my struts' comparatively loosy goosy behavior is due to modified ride height or wear. Don't think I'd get audi to agree that they are worn beyond manufactures specs, though, so replacement would be an expensive exercise of fastidiousness and denial of the aging of my vehicle.
