WWW.AUTOTOYS.COM.. You want to go to the storefront and then the OEM section. They offered 2 for the Audi when I purchased mine, an 8-disc and a 6-disc (both Panasonic). I recommend that if you do it, get the 6disc. Last I checked, the price was around $217. Well worth the money, pretty easy to install (worked the first time I plugged it in!).

I've been very happy with it, no skipping and the sound is great.

Just be cautious of one thing.. I don't care for the Autotoys people. Just TRY and find a phone number on the web site! AND -- They don't tell you when you purchase it.. But you'll find a nice notice when you open the box.. NO REFUNDS. You CAN"T return it, so keep that in mind. A friend of mine purchased one that was defective, and he had a hell of a time getting an RMA to return it.

Wouldn't you rather have 8 instead of 6? I have it, as well as a few friends. It works awesome. And it's only $217. If you have the Concert head unit, why pay an extra $50 to Clair and only get 6 discs?

Brainz24,
What exactly did you have to do to install it? Was it just a plug and play, or did you have to make holes, connect a whole bunch of wires, and all that stuff. Please let me know I want to get one but want a easy hookup. I have no clue about cd changers...

Thanks

There is only ONE wire. It took a few minutes to find the pre-wired cd wire in the car. It's wrapped in foam, so it isn't immediately obvious where it is... Once that was done, there is ONLY one wire to hook up. AUTOTOYS sent a special cable that plugs from the CD-Changer into the pre-wired cable in the car. Plugs in no problem, supplies power and all. It worked immediately after I plugged it in.

As far as installation goes, there are no modifications that have to be made. It fits right in the factory slot, BUT.. To get it in you have to remove some of the panels in the trunk.. And once you get it in place, it's a pain to screw in.. Not easy to reach. I only used two screws and put some foam underneath it.. It has not skipped once so far, so the foam must be a good thing.

The reason I recommend the 6.. My friend bought the 6 disc from autotoys (same price as 8 I think), and his was easier to install... You could plug the unit in before sliding it into the bracket.. With the 8-disc, it won't slide into the bracket with the connection wire plugged in.. So we had to put the cd-changer in first, the plug it in afterwards....It was just a pain..

Once in, it works beautifully.

Yeah, I bought an 8-disc changer from Autotoys and specified '99.5 A4. They sent the wrong adapter and then would not respond when I tried to contact them by email (all I got was an automatic response that said to phone them) or by phone (a toll call led to a recorded message that said to contact them by email). Same problem when I tried to get an RMA from them. All this happened in May. I'm still waiting for my VISA provider to negotiate with Autotoys' bank so that I will know if the temporary credit (when I disputed the bill) will be made permanent. I'm hoping that it'll get resolved soon, so that I can finally buy a CD changer.

Autotoys is a major PITA, and you should realize that you are risking your $217 if you choose to place your order with them.

I installed the 8-disc changer by removing the metal mounting assembly and using a pair of vicegrips to bend back the tab that's in the way of the connector. It really wasn't a big deal. Also, having it out of the trunk it was a lot easier to get the mounting screws threaded.

When you bought the changer from the web site, did you just click on "CD Changers" and find the Panasonic 8 disc, or did you go to the "OEM Equipment" section and find Audi? That seems like where people are running into problems. They order the regular retail 8 CD changer which comes with a connector for a standard Panasonic head unit.

... which works just fine also. You will have to take the CD pre-wire cable up back to just behind your rear seats, but that's not terribly hard.

Never had a skip.

There's step-by-step FAQ in the archives regarding this install.
