It seems like me steering fluctuates between very easy with little resistance to a harder with more resistance.

Is this normal or am I looking at a new power steering pump or something?

The designe of our power assist (servotronic) is a two stage system. At rest and a low speed there is maximum assist. When the car accelerates and move faster this max assist is switched off to a lower level of assist.

Many have removed the relay (the 605 mod) that triggers this change in assist. Some say the lower level yeilds better control and feel. Others say it eliminates the need to join a health club.

Thanks Paulroad - I noticed your are thinking about selling your AR...Your not loosing the AR faith are you? Your commitment and dedication to the AR is one of the reasons I purchased mine...

and will continue to do so. I'll be keeping the ar as the hit I'll take due to deminished value vrs my baloon, is more than the difference in fuel cost with an A4 1.8T

anecdotal decision. As long as my FAST allowance can keep this thing going forward I will keep it:)
