View Full Version : 710n and TBB install, could someone help me w/ a few questions?

I searched and searched archives and I believe I am apparently the only one that struggled a bit with this install.

1. The 710s were not too difficult obviously and one was in fact dead (I had an "A" and a "B" on my car and the "A" was dead.) However, I was unable to get my newly purchased pipe clamps on the nipples of the 710s. I bought the smallest I could find (1/4) and there was no way to tighten it small enough to fit w/in the space around the nipple. Any ideas? I have no clamps on them now and they seem fine but I would like to make sure it's done right.

2. I could not get the downpipes away from the TBB enough to clear the throttle body boot for removal! I unscrewed and removed both 10mm bolts retaining them to the case (per the S4 tech article) but I still couldn't get them to move far enough toward the front of the car (I actually did get the right one off the TBB but then I thought I would break something so I stopped with the left). Is there something else there that I need to loosen on each side to give me more room?

I am somewhat discouraged that I failed as I am (or thought I was) fairly handy w/tools. Any thoughts? I "think" I notice a difference w/two working DVs now but I can't tell if it is actually a gain in performance or an imagined response because that is what I wanted! Please chime in if you have any thoughts.

there are also around half way down little lips that are held by a clipped notch on timing chain covers, should be able to lift up on "downpipes" and pull away if you have bottom bolts loose.

...couldn't see what it was and didn't want to force it. Just give it a little more muscle upwards you say? I can't imagine having that much free space to pull upwards? Please elaborate a bit more.

(sorry for nagging, I am in a very delicate state after failing...you know..yelling at kids/wife, kicking dog etc)

with the nipple on the valves. I bought too big of clamps which were, as you stated, too large. I then ran down to the small shop in my little town and bought the pressure clamps (the ones that you squeeze to make larger, then when released hold tight). They worked perfectly and cost me .40. If you need any let me know. I am sure a zip tie would work as well, but these are reusable if you replace the DV's again.

s into to support the middle of the pipes. The "thingy" is about 3 inches long, many people break the "thingy" when removing the pipes. I know it's tight in the engine compartment(no where near as bad as an S4 though), but reach down to bottom of pipe where you unbolted pipe, and while holding at top too try to lift up on pipe. Unhooking the intercooler hoses running to pipes would make it easier, but I don't see why you can't remove pipes without that step.

The trick is to gently pull the small hose of the valve. then put some oil on the new valev endes and just push them on. Its also easier to remove the old hose clamps after the valve is off..just by pulling.

click
