Gents -
I've been looking for a used '03 S6 and a buddy of mine just pointed out what a great deal an allroad can me.
I think I'd only go 6sp with a 2.7t, but need your thoughts. My old way of thinking would only put a tip or other autobox on a big v8 like a 4.2.
I'm concerned that the AR may not be sporty enough - thoughts?
Love your input before I spend cash.
Thanks, Aaron

but it's much more enjoyable to drive than an SUV. The adjustable suspension (or at least this implementation) greatly compromises the sporting handling. While it has a slightly harsh bump response, it is pretty soft overall. The rear end (at least on mine -- maybe I need a rear alignment) is particularly bad at holding a line over a bump, but that's true of many sports cars as well. But with stiffer h-sport sway bars, it can be quite fun on twisty roads.
It may be "sporty enough" for your needs. For me it's an all-purpose vehicle, so I don't expect it to be without compromise, and it's "sporty enough". If you have multiple vehicles, you may prefer a purer sports car and a separate hauler. For many on this forum, the allroad is sporty enough to be the alternative to their hauler.

with the addation of the H-Sport sway bar package, and 18" wheels it dose alright in the curves. Not may other trailer tower's can match it, except the plastic car. (corvette C5 with hitch) but it's only good for 1000lbs. You could, and I have towed the plastic car on a open trailer behind our 2.7T tip.

Yes the AR 4.2 is not an S4 manual, but it can really move. I have no problem in the twisties and I am driving a 4.2 AR 2005. And I am not a slow driver trust me on that.... And I don't have problems passing people... either whether it is on the roads or highway. The 4.2 acceleration is quite amazing for a car of this weight....Let me tell you, you will not be bored with this car. Just go and try one. This is the best way to find out for yourself.
Am I the only one to push my AR 4.2 around here???? Come on....
I have the same amount of fun in my 4.2 as I did with my 2.7T with X program. Threw on the H-Sports, and I take twisties just as fast...
4.2 sucks gas worse than the 2.7T though....but that's my only complaint.
Mad AR

factory warranty. There is simply too many things that can go wrong esp. with turboed ones.
As for sportiness- it is not a sports car. It is too heavy to be nimble enough to qualify as one. However, for its weight and size it is a remarkably fast car. Of course you pay for it by burning a lot of gas.
Why do I drive a second AR now? I like the look of it, comfort and versatility it offers, and I can upset a lot of sports cars off the street light. 2.7 or 4.2? If money is not a problem I'd go for a 4.2 and chip it to 350hp.
I would go on but gotta go wake up my patient in the OR...

I think the AR is extremely sporting for a wagon, but I don't think it qualifies as a "sports car."<ul><li><a href="http://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/126681.phtml">http://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/126681.phtml</a</li></ul>
