So the lease is up in August, one payment left to make. The ar is a 2002 with everything but tire pressure sensors and navigation. Purchased 45k miles but only have 34k. Giving serious consideration to buying the ar especially considering the low miles. Buyout is $25,700 certification is $1,600. As others have found Audi doesn't seem to discuss purchase price. Looking at cars.com most 2002s with 30k to 40k miles have an asking price of $28,000 to $33,000. So based on this it sounds like a fair price to pay. I have never purchased a leased car at end of lease. Been leasing for 20 years. But this car is different and doesn't seem to feel 3 years old. Looks brand new inside and out. Can't find a good replacement either.

Any thoughts on buying off of lease and is this a fair deal? The dealer is trying to see if I can buy early and not make last payment, but don't think they will go for that.

you know the history of the car.. you can get an inexpensive CPO warranty @ $1600.00..I'd think its a good deal.

Is it an Audi extended warranty or another non-Audi warranty?

Guess there is a incentive for the dealer to sell so many CPO vehicles in a year.

Just never purchased the car at the end of lease in the past. Usually tired of it and can get just as good a deal on a new lease. Leasing is not as good as it once was so it's actually cheaper to run the ar for the next 3 years. Of course there will be some money spent on 18" wheels/tires.

worth it. I've owned a VW and Audi with the aftermarket (service contract) warranty. They are worthless most of the time. The VW DLR used to claim that a working part was covered in order to get the broken one fixed. Even though the broken one was covered the Warr Co found some way to deny the claim and attempt to void the entire Warr. We are talking about a VW bought in '90 with ALL service/maint. records and taking it to the the DLR the Warr was purchased from. CPO is the way to go!!

Funny - I got off the phone with my dealer less than an hour ago. He said my best bet with my car (simular situation) was to wait until the lease was up, then have the dealer buy it, CPO the car, and sell it back to you. You should be able to buy it back CPO'ed for less than the buyout. Apparently Audi isn't in the habit of selling cars to the leasee for less than the residual value, but they'll do a deal with a dealer.

I'd say go talk to the place you bought it from.

I think the dealer is getting it for less than the buyout but won't pass on the savings. They keep giving me examples of 2002s on the market for more than the buyout price.
