I've sold three through Autotrader but was thinking about getting broader attention. I've never sold or bought anything on eBay, so I just finished setting up a seller's account and PayPal.
What are your thoughts:
- Are setting a reserve and/or Buy it Now worth the extra costs?
- Since I have no 'seller rating' how can I encourage bidding?
- Best way to do the transaction if I do get a good final bid?
Thanks,
PicciaNY

Whichever works out best....

The one I sold was a junker tht we sold for $1000. The 2 we bought were painless transactions.
Keep in mind Ebay generally goes for wholesale values.. not retail. It can also take three of four postings to get a true sale. Lots of BS.. no credit.. etc. out there.
Your history being its a car is not important.. the car is.
I suggest you keep a way from the buy it now and watch the auction with your reserve set as you wish. Ask for $1000.00 deposit in wired or certified funds. Also ask that people be pre approved for theifinancing before they bid.. lots of dead wood out there.
It helps to have you title cleared of any lien and in your hands. and let the posting state this. People don't like to be bothered waiting for a title after they paid to your bank.
Just make you listing and see what happens.. Also put in the listing that you "reserve the right to end the auction early subject to other sales."

Make it really easy for interested buyers to contact you, also put loads of photos on. I bought a car from ebay by simply emailing the seller enquiring about his selling price and then arranging to see the car as if I had seen the advert in the classifieds. It was a good deal, he was happy and so was I. Good luck with your sale. :)

You might wanna ask around see if a friend with feedback can list it for you. Having no feedback will scare some buyers away.

Never sold one directly, but it did lead to buyers before. The best is to find speciality sites and I have had decent success with Craigslist.org - its free.
I am selling my Passat right now and getting an allroad. Here is the type of ad that I made (see link below)
What I do is take the html from the ad and put it into Ebay. Tons of pictures is key. Like Paulroad said you mainly get wholesale at best and selling more expensive cars on ebay rarley works. Having no feedback on ebay will hurt you more or prevent some serious bids.
Check out craigslist.org if you haven't - I almost sold the VW last week, but I was out of town and the guy needed a car! That was only one week on craigslist posted in NYC area and Philly board.
Good luck!<ul><li><a href="http://www.misplacedyankee.com/vwsale.html">Passat Ad</a></li></ul>
