View Full Version : My blinkers have gone haywire...

Anyone have any idea what is going on here:

Driving home this evening my blinkers started action strange. At first, it was almost like they would skip a beat every few tics or so. I figured a bulb was going out somewhere. When I got into the garage, I tested out the blnkers to check all the bulbs and they started going absolutely nuts. No rhythm just total random blinking, flickering, etc.

In some of my prior vehicles, a speedy blinker meant a bulb was out, but this was a totally random tic...very odd.

Any thought?

I had same symptoms, as you described "it was almost like they would skip a beat every few tics or so".

Reason was in hazard switch which had internal shortage

Cost me $23 out of warranty. Should be a 10 minute dealer fix under warranty.

http://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/91515.phtml</a

It's not all crazy like audiallroadin's description...instead, about %50 of the time the left blinker flashes double rate since it is using the running light as a blinker. Sometimes it acts totally normal....

does this sound like it could be the same problem - need to change the relay?

thanks,
Ryan

Bulb could be loose/dirty in socket. If all that checks out then relay probably the problem. Right and left have two separate contacts inside the relay. The left could be dirty/worn more than right. You could take it apart to clean it or just replace the whole part.
