Tonite on my way to the gym I was involved in an accident.
Long story short, a teenager who had been drinking (Canadian G2 licence, whatever that means) made a
left turn while I was passing through intersection on the green. Driver was charged.
I had my car towed (all 4 wheels off the ground, of course) to the police impound.
Car is not really drivable--steering way off, R-28 damaged front quarter damage front and
rear door damage (cant open driver's door) My euro head light was spared, but the clear corner
is gone :-(
Tomorrow (Wednesday) I begin the fun stuff.
I want to take the car to my own body shop. The car is a lease.
Do I have to inform the lease company of my accident?
Do they (lease company) have the right to spec a body shop?
I had not (i forgot) informed insurance company of R-28s and rubber. Problems here?
I also think the H&R coil overs may be damaged(I have no receipt on these)
How will body shop handle? Will adjuster say anything on this?
How do I proceed tomorrow?
Any suggestions on things to do/not do, warnings etc. would be appreciated in advance.
(as opposed to:u should have blah blah blah...)
TIA
PS all were surprised how well the car took the hit--it was quite jarring. Hurray for side impact
beams

Sorry about what's happened with you and your car. I hope you are all right after the accident!
Here in British Columbia we have 3 steps to finally get a driver's licence for new driver. I don't know which provide you are living in and does G2 mean the second level of graduation of driving test.
Make sure you are going to your family doctor and filed what tissue issues you have after the side-impact accident.
If you are as lucky as my sister was in a head-on accident last year when the opponent agrees that he was in fault, you may have lesser problem. If not, you will have lots of annoying things to do before you can take your car to the local body shop.
I am sorry I don't know anything about leasing company's agreement with the insurance company! :<
The body shop basically have nothing to say about you and your car. They just take the repair order and do the jobs required. I don't think the adjuster has anything to say except if your car is over 50% damage and has to completely write off.
Hope this help,
Tom

a G2 license means you have all the privileges of a normal driver, except you may not have ANY alcohol in your bloodstream. This law was enacted because most drivers with G1's and G2's are underage and shouldn't be drinking (legally at least) anyway. He won't get a DUI or anything, but I think he'll lose his license for a bit ( or have to restart his graduated licensing term at G1 - no night driving, four year licensed passenger always present, etc.) plus he'll obviously get a failure to yield/ afford reasonable opportunity to avoid/whatever.
As for your car, I don't think you'll have any problems getting money for the R-28 or the tire. I totaled a Jeep Cherokee when I was 16 and I was reimbursed for all of the stereo equipment inside even though I had never informed them about it. I couldn't even find some of the equipment after the accident, and they still reimbursed me ( I DID have a receipt though).
I think you'll be OK on the coilovers too, you'll just have to somehow prove market value to them.
Good to hear our rides are solid and you're OK!
Cheers,

...sorry to hear about the accident Randall. I was looking forward to seeing your car with the R28s this weekend (that is if you're coming...). I agree with Mark, I think you should be able to get the money for the Rim/tire back and anything with the receipts...just don't make a point about how you haven't told them about your mods etc etc. I believe you do have to inform the lease company of the accident though since technically they own the car. They may be flexible with the body shop as long as it's certified to do the work...
Hope it all turns out ok...are you going to come on Sunday anyway?
Good luck.

Randall, I'm so sorry to hear that! Dude....you have a modified LEASE car?
Anyway, the whole accident thing is a bummer. A lease company will usually require the car to be repaired even if it would normally be a total. I've seen it happen.
This can be very bad. The car may never be quite the same. Depends on how bad..but you may want to turn it in at the end (keep the mods.) and get a new one if the repair is not perfect.
Best of luck...so sorry about the news.

Sorry to hear about this; glad that you're all right.
First, I would DEFINITELY inform your insurance co. If drunk tries reneging on insurance, and your insurance doesn't know about it, could be major hassle.
Re lease co. - feel should inform them, too. When you give up car, and they find out it's been wrecked, (and I'm sure any good mechanic/body shop can tell), you'll probablyu be hit with big penalties. They might say you owe them car residual value. HIGHLY recommend close look at lease.
As far as picking shop, this is largely up to the insurnace co. paying for repair. Some require you to go to particular shops (generally not the best ones), others allow you to pick shop (State Farm, my co. does).
All I can say is make sure your insurance is informed and fight like hell to get the car fixed right.

necessarily drunk. The G2 license restricts BAC to ZERO. Buddy could have had half a beer. Randall said the kid had been drinking - he could have blown a .01, he would violate the terms of his licensed and be charged with a minor infraction, but not criminal DUI.
On the other hand he could have been in a car full of beer cans, and if so, he should bend over, cause he deserves it.
