I've owned my 99.5q 30v for six months now and have grown weary being left holding my jock at stops by "lesser" vehicles. Would like some advice on how to enhance my Audi's engine performance. What are some of the better chips, filters, exhausts, etc...Will modifiying the exhaust boost hp/torque?? Would also like to keep this wi/ budget <$2k.
You might want to look at the Neuspeed P-Chip for about $180-200 which should add about 20HP. An exhaust should add about 5-8HP. Both of these upgrades should cost about $800 incl install (Neuspeed includes install of chip, soldering, and return shipping). I'm not too familiar with the 2.8 upgrades as I have the 1.8T. Hopefully someone here can help you better than I.

Chips offer minimal increases over stock (some say no difference) and the increases occur right at the top of the rev range. Not too useful, especially considering the potential "you have voided your warranty" problems that may occur if you blow an engine.
Exhaust: I haven't seen one yet that was developed specifically with the 2.8 in mind. Most were developed for the 1.8 and retrofitted to the 2.8 and increase the flow AND reduce backpressure which is bad for the low-end in the 2.8 (offers slight increases in the top end). SOME COMPANIES OFFER THE EXACT EXHAUST FOR THE 1.8 AND THE 2.8!!
Nothin' else is even worth mentioning.

A performance chip may increase midrange torque slightly, but combine it w/ a K&N air header, a free flow exhaust system, high intensity ignition wires w/Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs and you'll probably notice a more significant difference.. (Note, these modifications could delete your warranty should your car go wrong since you are dealing w/ a lot of after market products...)
