I'm planning to trade-in my BMW 318ti for an A4 1.8T. Don't get me wrong here, I have no complaints about my present car. I just think it's time to change (my car, that is...). The new BMW (E46) looks too big.

If you are ordering, it depends on what cars that dealer has that are allocated but not spoken for yet. If you order from scratch...it might take about 3-4 months. Check dealers in your area for what they have already ordered and are waiting for...if you are not too picky you may get something real close to what you want pretty fast. I personally took one off the lot...but got a great deal...so I couldn't pass it up. The dealers have printouts showing exactly what cars are coming and with what options they have on them.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
I ordered my 1.8t at the begin of October. the dealer could not guarantee when I will recieve
it but he did guarantee that I won't recieve it
until after christmas. He said that it is safe
to say that I will recieve it by the end of january.

I got my '99 A4 2.8 QMS in less than a week. The experience would have been the same if I'd ordered a 1.8T. However, if I'd wanted something special, it would have been much longer. On the 2.8, I had to pay for a few things I wouldn't have ordered myself. Actually, as it's turned out, I'm glad: the sports seat, cold weather package and trip computer are pretty cool.
Fergus

Delivered to dealer from Houston Port to Van Nuys, CA 10.30.98
Maybe you should ask your dealer to see the VIN inquiry page on your car. It will list each production stage and date completed. It is called an "Individual VIN Inquiry" and can be done at ANY time by the dealer on their computer. It will list YOUR name on it also, in addition to the option codes.
My dealer freely gave this to me.
Kirk
