I feel like an idiot, but here's the story.
yesterday I was messing around and was trying to race my friend, I have a 99 1.8t 5speed. I rev'd the engine to the redline and was about the release the clutch when I realized that the clutch was stuck and wouldn't come up, it was about halfway up...meanwhile I'm burning the hell out of my clutch! I felt stupid because I don't usually have trouble taking off like that, what is going on?

Is this something that happens when you rev the engine too high?(clutching that wont come up) Anyone have any similar experiences?
The trouble now is that I still smell the clutch when driving in stop and go traffic, (this happened last night and I smell the clutch today.)
Did I really screw something up?
HELP ME.
thanks

Last week when I was driving my clutch went to the floor and wouldn't come up, I had to pull it up with my hands. afterwards it would get stuck halfway once in a while. my car is only 200miles old. so I took it to the dealer, they said the master cylinder had a leak in it - common problem - they said. and basically replaced it with a new one under warranty. a lot of the people here at the forum encountered similar problems so you don't need to worry, it can be fixed.

you just need to wear off the burnt material. Shouldn't shorten your clutch life too much, just avoid a few of those drag race starts and you will be back to where you were.

do you think I need to replace the master cylinder?
