I'm wondering what this forum thinks of purchasing a used 2001 allroad - certified pre owned. An audi dealer down the street has one in bronze for 34990 that I'm interested in. 29000 miles. The only thing I've heard from 1 owner is that he had terrible electrical problems with his and ended up getting rid of his.

Also I'm wondering if mpg can be increased if driven mostly in lowest suspension position. 16 city seems a bit low for me.

What do ya'll think?

thanks ahead of time for your responses

Would you be intersted in a A6 2.7T? Probably not, but I'm tryin to sell it before it I pay for the autotrader listing ;) Good luck, but I'd find another allroad. Look on ebay, a few dealers sell Audi Assured (certified pre-owned) Allroads there cheap.

I know a surgeon in this area who loves audi's with a name very similar to "Mazzy." Might you be that fun-loving creature of the ASF?

about allroads was from this one guy who had problems. This one is fine. Some specific questions:

1. Can I get a car seat rear facing in the backseat with room for a driver and front passenger.

2. Does the 2001 (first year offered) have problems that might have been fixed in subsequent years?

3. Is there anything specific I should look for in an allroad - problems or perks?

4. Can the mpg be improved if driven mostly in lowest suspension setting?

why you keep trying to sell your A6 (sedan) to prospective allroad (wagon) buyers? This seems like a poor sales strategy. Know your target market! ;-)

There are no glaring problems with 2001 allroads, compared to other years. I believe some firmware updates have been made (Transmission Control, Suspension Control), but nothing electrical. There were some new features in 2002, but those weren't fixes.

Many people put a child seat in the center location, which might allow for a passenger to sit in front, or in back.

At city speeds, the suspension level won't affect fuel economy. Most people get appreciably more than 16mpg, unless they never get the car up to speed and cruise for some period of time. If 100% of your driving is from stoplight to stoplight, be prepared for a big gas bill. =)

The more I think about it, the more I need a vehicle to tow a small trailer. I HATE suv's, with the exception of the Cheyanne (flame suit on) and Touareg. I still don't want to drive a SUV. So I'm spending more time on this forum and I figure its worth the 20 seconds of typing to ask ;)

I think the allroad is a fantastic tow vehicle - and it's probably the most realistic function for which people actually need it's suspension. Even the Uhaul guy comments on how cool it is to see the suspension level off when he attaches the trailer to the hitch!

In the SF Bay Area, I find that Yahoo Auto Classifieds, and the online newspaper classifieds produce the most hits from truly interested buyers. Autotrader isn't bad either. Good luck selling/buying. =)

1. What options do you think are "must-have?"

2. Any thoughts on what I should expect/demand from the dealer in making this deal. Have excellent credit. If he's asking 34900, what would be your first counter offer?

Sounds a bit high to me. I know of an allroad for sale in the Detroit area, 2001, 21K miles, for 32900.

I was ready to buy 01 AR at same price. Went, instead with new 03 with almost $5000 off sticker and this did not include Audi loyalist credit. Did this because financing for purchase or lease was so good. Expect even better now becuase end of model year

where is the one you're refering to? at a dealer?

I've seen 2 - one at lexus of ann arbor and one at cook in farmington. I've been offered 34400 with some extended warrantee protection in ann arbor and 34900 is the initial offer from farmington (certified pre owned).

I bought my 2002 AR, with 6500 miles on it (it was a dealer's loaner) two months ago for $36,500. It's like new w/ the leather, roof & Bose......It's a six speed (which I wanted), and the slush-boxes do go for a bit more, but I think $34,990 is high.......

16 mpg city is not bad...and really nothing you do can make a substantial improvement...if 16 is not enough, I'd recommend a lot of other cars...
