I think a little more tire would look great under our fender flares. Anyone ever try?

But you might want to check the diameter, could be a bet small.

That would be a whole lot of extra sidewall.

is it therefore dangerous to use on 7.5 -- would the tire just roll over? What is the danger of too big a tire?

Since the 255/45/17 Pilot Sport A/S is designed for a 8"-9.5" rim, you might not be able to get a tire store to mount them on a 7.5" rim. I think the issue would be whether or not the bead would sit properly when folded in the extra distance, and the tire store's liability for mounting them on an improper rim size.

Personally, I think it would probably work. It would look a little silly, and be far less than optimal for performance. =) I just don't think stores would be happy about mounting it.

225/55-17 = 26.75"
245/50-17 = 26.65
255/50-17 = 27.03
255/45-17 = 26.03

So the 255/45 is close to 3% shorter in diameter.

from what I see 255/50 would be reasonable, no?

i figure if yzf996fltri can get 245-45-18(at 9.8" wide) on 32 et offset to fit i should be able to get 255-50-17(at 10.2"wide) to fit on 25 et offset. as for what they look like, they look like suv tires and handles a whole lot better then stock goodyear tires did. the continental contiextremecontact would be better for snow(from the looks of the tread design) then my tires(bf goodrich g force kdws) but wouldn't handle in dry as good.

in the snow with four wheel drive i can go fine in the snow uphill or flat but will not stop well on hills with more then 2 inches of snow. don't know where you live but in hilly terrain and snow i would suggest a different tire.the continental contiextremecontact get good reviews on tirerack and are even cheaper then kdws and same tread wear as kdws and pilot sport a/s.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiExtr emeContact</li

i was getting some uneven tire wear(on inside of tire) and think it was because i lowered my car too much without an alignment(1/2",then 3/4",then 1" now back to stock)

on the A6. Our Chicago winters aren't bad enough to worry about significant snow, and we have the SUV with knobby tires for winter.
$300+ difference talks.
