View Full Version : Audi Telematics phone TeeT 02-03-2003, 04:40 PM Which one comes with it? I'm guessing the Motorola V60? itacud 02-03-2003, 04:44 PM Telematics uses it's own (analog) phone to connect to Onstar, and it can be used for a very expensive analog cellular service -- also offered through Onstar. However, if you want to use the phone buttons on the steering wheel and the built in phone pre-wiring to connect a removable phone, you need to buy a V60 -- most likely the Audi specific V60. markcincinnati 02-03-2003, 05:58 PM If you opt for Audi telematics -- YOU DO get a phone. A built-in only eyes and hands free phone -- with its own number, which apparently cannot be called -- it is outbound only. I am 98% sure of this. If you opt for the Audi V60 phone, you get two phone lines, two power supplies and after year one, two phone bills. And, if you really want to use the Telematics Phone, you will pay $39 for 100 minutes that expire in one year use them or lose them. The "need" for the semi-permanent V60 is, in my book, fairly high. At the discounted price of $700 for the phone, set up installed, etc. -- it does seem high by about $350. But mine works well and the integration is excellent. So, telematics includes a phone -- but not what we're used to strickly speaking. itacud 02-03-2003, 06:02 PM Yeah... that's what I said. Telematics has an analog phone, that's not removable, with very expensive Onstar-provided rate plans. =) treerun 02-03-2003, 09:08 PM by a dealer the other day that if I wanted to integrate a v60 I'd need Audi's v60 and that a regular one wouldn't work with the system. In addition I was told that I HAD to buy service from Audi (Cingular) and that I could not opt out of the OnStar crap (which i dont want). NW_allroad 02-04-2003, 08:43 AM onstar is actually pretty cool if you actually need directions. I got directions to a chinese place in Vancouver a few weeks ago and it was a great experience so i opted for the onstar updrade directions plan. I also did some research into the v60. someone else on the alias said they got the phone for 700 instead of the 1000 my dealer wanted. I still want the name of that dealer! I am curious what exactly you get from the v60 in terms of UI integration. I know you get the stereo, mute, use of the built in microphone, calls come through the bose, but what else? The v60 was a nice phone last year, but it's already behind the curve of my LG VX1. And in 4 years when i return the allroad it will be a relic. a 1000 dollar relic. Oh yeah i also called our local magnolia hifi, and they could put in a non-audi v60 169$ hands free kit 25$ bracket 50$ antenna 200$ install 129$ for phone plus 8.8% tax == $623.43 which is really close to the 700$ someone mentioned. treerun 02-04-2003, 09:00 AM Like use the stereo for sound, and the built in mics, the buttons on the steering wheel etc? |
